Erica also explores how choosing joy can transform both patient care and workplace culture, offering insights for healthcare professionals looking to make a lasting impact.
“No one comes to work to make our lives miserable. So let’s just figure out and dig deeper into how to have that conversation and how to make that connection to what does joy look like for you?”
“When you think about those vulnerable moments that we have the privilege to actually take care of people in these moments, it’s making that personal connection. It’s understanding who that team is that’s around you to help support that care. So connection is maybe the one word that I would use that I continue to leverage, that it’s that connection with the individual, because at the end of the day, Yep, this is my role, but we’re a whole human and there’s a lot that goes into us as being full humans.”
“When I think about our clinicians, I think about our nurses at the bedside—they’re the brilliance, right? Engaging them and involving them and making sure that they understand and know how valued they are, and they’re really the problem solvers.”
“By automating some of the administrative burden, how I can make that true connection with our patients, no matter if that’s in the ambulatory setting or in the inpatient setting.”
“And I know most people wouldn’t describe COVID as magical. What was magical about it is the power of our integrated system, the power of all of our systems, focusing on one problem and the creativity, the innovation, and execution that we were able to accomplish during that time was second to none.”
“We have the privilege to serve millions of patients, but more importantly, there’s almost 50,000 employees that I try to represent on a daily basis, making sure that they understand how much I value them, but also that I make sure their work as well as their environment are as safe and as beneficial as possible.”
“I’m challenged every day to think about how are we going to continue to engage this amazing workforce that we need. But also continue to challenge them to think about things differently and also help them understand the value that they bring with fresh eyes and insights.”
